Hatha yoga is the type of yoga that concentrates mainly on the postures/poses or yogasana. But there are many styles. Here are a few examples;

Vinyasa, vinyasa flow, Ashtanga flow, Mysore ashtanga, Power yoga;

These are some of the main styles of yoga that bring the postures into a reasonably fast paced routine, flowing from one posture to the next quite quickly. Flows have names like; Salute to the sun and Salute to the moon. If you are looking to practice yoga mainly for fitness reasons, these styles give a good Cardio workout. Yogi Tobye will often incorporate a flow sequence into His classes.

Yin yoga;

This is a style of yoga devised by Paul Grilley. Each posture can be held for up to 20 minutes at a time to get a real deep stretch into the Facia as well as Muscle tissue. There are also some Yang flows which resemble Tai chi and enable the practitioner to build heat in the body. This style of yoga is good for anybody, no matter what size, shape, age or flexibility they are as there is always another posture that can be tried if the practitioner finds a certain posture too challenging. Yogi Tobye is influenced and inspired by Paul Grilley and Yin yoga

Iyengar yoga;

This style of yoga was one of the first brought to the west in the late sixties by its creator B.K.S. Iyengar. It is very much a classic Hatha yoga style except that it uses blocks, bricks, bolsters, belts and other props to help people increase their flexibility. Yogi Tobye is a qualified Karuna yoga teacher this is the style started by Yogi Tobye’s Guru Ruth White who trained with Iyengar for over 20 years. B.K.S. Iyengar is the president of Karuna yoga and the Ruth White yoga centre.
